COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Whether you like your dog with chili and cheese or mustard and ketchup, hot dogs have been an American favorite for more than a century. July 23rd is National Hot Dog Day and hot dog lovers are enjoying all the attention.
“I like hot dogs because you can burn in the fire,” says .
“We always go to the Sonic for chili dogs and today they’re a dollar at Sonic so that’s why we’re really here,” says .
“You cannot beat it for a dollar. Especially after a hard days work. You can go for lunch, even after work come have dinner. You can’t beat it,” says .
Whether you like them plain or with all the trimmings, preparing the hot dog is part of the fun.
“It’s one of those things you can customize. I like mine my way, you like yours your way. But at the end of the day it’s still a hot dog,” says Reco Collins, the General Manager at Sonic in Columbus on Highway 45.
Hot dogs are made with beef, pork and poultry. They originated in Germany in the 1600’s and now Americans eat 9 billion hot dogs each year.
