COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Mississippi University for Women graduates took part in a traditional graduate ceremony that dates back to the year 1890.
The 124th Annual Magnolia Chain is a ceremony where graduating seniors carry a long chain of magnolia leaves and blossoms to create a friendship circle while singing the “Magnolia Chain Song.”
Once the ceremony is complete, Seniors rush the Magnolia Chain in hopes to get a magnolia blossom.
The blossom symbolizes good fortune and romance.
Key note speakers included WCBI’s Joey Barnes, who is a MUW alumnus.
