COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Buzzers were ringing at the Mississippi School For Math and Science for hundreds of hopeful middle school students.
It’s all apart of the annual Mississippi Regional Middle School Science Bowl, where the best and brightest students from the state come to test their skills in math and science. The students have only a matter of seconds to show off their reflex skills as they face off in the competition.
It’s fast paced, question and answer format competition, where students must have their best foot forward. Competition organizers say it’s a great way to prepare the students for the upcoming years.
“This is the cream of the crop of our students when it comes to math and science. You have the best of the best that show up here, it looks great on their resume, they make us shine and they’re truly a diamond in our crown as a state,” said competition adviser, Lisa Johnson.
The winner of the regional competition will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. to compete in the Office of Science’s National Science Bowl in late April.
