Video: Mooreville Mother Arrested for Violating Social Hosting Law

LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A Mooreville woman has been arrested after authorities say she allowed minors to consume alcohol at her home during a birthday party for her teenage son.

47-year-old Angie Floyd was arrested and was charged with seven counts of violating the social hosting law.

That law says an adult cannot host a party where minors obtain, possess or consume alcoholic beverages.

Friday night, Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson says Floyd hosted a party for her 17-year-old son at her house on County Road 1451.

After receiving several complaints about loud music and cars parked in the roadway, Johnson says deputies went to the area, made a traffic stop, and found alcohol and drug paraphernalia in the car. Minors in the car had been to the party.

Johnson says deputies then went to Floyd’s home, where minors were intoxicated.

Floyd claims the party was advertised on a social media website and the crowd grew unexpectedly. However, Johnson says Floyd had an idea there would be a lot of guests at the event.

“She contacted our office, our investigator privately and stated that she was having a party and whatever shift was working, let her know if there was a problem and she would try and handle it,” Johnson said. “You know, with all the pretense of that, it’s getting hard for me to believe she wasn’t expecting more than three or four people to come eat cake.”

Johnson says several juveniles were arrested at the party. He says there could be more charges. The social hosting law has been on the books since 2011.
