AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) — New Flood maps are in the works for Monroe County.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency task force updated their flood maps back in 2010 in light of Hurricane Katrina.
During the study, the task force forgot to include several levees in the Monroe County area causing the levees to not meet certain standards.
Now, the county is one of the 25 in the pilot project being restudied.
“We’re optimistic we don’t know what the new maps will look like but we feel certain that they will drop the elevation some from what they were,” Billy Kirkpatrick.
Itawamba and Lowndes County were among other counties whose flood maps were updated.
