MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A burglary victim is now behind bars.
In December, Allen Duncan’s home was robbed of nearly $140,000 in cash and a few guns.
Further investigation led deputies to suspect Duncan of illegal drug activity.
“This is a whole bag of marijuana, like it’s been mailed or been brought in by somebody,” said Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell.
On Thursday, Monroe County investigators searched Alan Duncan’s business, Smithville Hardware.
That’s when they found 4 to 5 pounds of marijuana hidden throughout the store.
“Several different places in his store that he had hidden in paint cans and different things,” said Cantrell.
Duncan was already behind bars for violating his federal probation.
In December, his home was robbed of nearly $140,000 and some guns, which were recovered.
“You know, he can’t have weapons and he couldn’t have that money because he wasn’t reporting it to the government and reporting it to the court. And that got him in more trouble,” said Cantrell.
Sheriff Cantrell says they have been watching Duncan after being tipped off he was involved in drug activity.
“It’s just wrong to sell drugs, we’ve been watching Mr Duncan for a long time and it just played out last night that this finally came to an end,” added Cantrell.
Sheriff Cantrell hopes other arrests will also be made in the case.
Duncan is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell by Monroe County.
Federal charges might come as well.
The investigation continues.
