STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)-No matter who you pull for, you’ve probably heard that Mississippi State is headed back to Omaha for the College World Series.
People love a winner, and Starkville businesses are seeing strong sales of Bulldog merchandise.
If you’re a Mississippi State Baseball fan, you’ll never forget the moment when you heard that the Bulldogs had beaten Virginia.
The team is heading back to the College World series for the first time since 2007.
Fans want to wrap themselves in maroon and white. Businesses, like The Lodge in Starkville, are getting requests faster than merchandise.
“We started getting phone calls wanting shirts 10 minutes after we won the game and of course we’re good, but we have to get them in a few days and the website is just full of orders so it’s going to be very good for us,” says John Hendricks.
As Mississippi State’s baseball team gears up for the college World Series, many fans are heading to local stores to purchase the latest merchandise.
“We’re excited the towns excited the students are. It’s been a long time since we’ve done this so it’s nice to be back to what we used to consider tradition,” says Hendricks.
Sales during the summer months are usually slow, but Owner John Hendricks is certainly not complaining.
“Mississippi State people really support the team and have a history of doing that so we knew they would do it again. That really helped us in may and help us on in June,” says Hendricks.
Garrett Whitehurst, one of the many shoppers The Lodge has seen, just this week, says he couldn’t wait to buy more MSU apparel.
“I’m a very huge Mississippi State fan. I’m also a student so when I heard they were going to college world series. I also watched the game and was very excited so that made me want to go and come in here and buy some stuff at The Lodge,” says Garrett Whitehurst.
Garrett says when you shop at stores like The Lodge, it’s a great way to keep your dollars local *and* show your true colors.
“I think people should want to be here and support their team. Going to the College World Series this is a big deal not only are we one of the two teams going for the SEC, but it’s our state and so it’s our school. So I think everyone should get in have and purchase something,” says Whitehurst.
Be sure to tune in tomorrow night for our “Road to Omaha” Special. It will air at 6:30 in place of the Andy Griffith show.
