COLUMBUS,Miss. (WCBI)-Football season is still a few months away, but for Mississippi State fans it’s always a good time to meet the head coach.
Saturdays are a great time for families to head out to local dealerships to shop for a vehicle, but today’s Beautiful weather and low prices weren’t the only things that attracted a huge crowd to Carl Hogan Toyota in Columbus.
“I came to see Coach Mullen. I mean he is the guy, he is the man, Dan the man. He’s been here I think this is like his third year here and I come every year to see him and talk to him and get to meet the people around here and just have a good time,” says Delbert Berry.
For Delbert Berry this year’s visit with Coach Mullen was more than an annual meet and greet, but a way for him to make his dad’s gift for Father’s Day a little more special.
“I have a sign that I had gotten and I’m going to give it to my dad for Father’s Day. He went to school there way back in the 50s when it was Cow College,” says Berry.
As Dan Mullen signs things from arm braces to footballs, he says no matter how many events he does there is always one thing he enjoys the most.
“Very blessed I mean just by showing up I can put a smile on someone’s face and taking a picture, just signing a football for them. It’s pretty special to be able to do that,” says Dan Mullen.
With all the support he receives from fans Dan says it’s great to meet those who support the Mississippi State’s football team.
“I think it’s huge, you know what I mean, we’re very grateful for the opportunity that Mississippi State University has given my wife and I and how everyone here in the state of Mississippi accepted us and believe in what we are trying to do. It’s great that we have the opportunity to give back and get to see everyone else out in public as kind of a regular person every once in a while,” says Mullen.
“Carl Hogan is a big supporter of Mississippi State and we love having Dan here and it brings people out and lets them see the vehicles and stuff that they have here at Carl Hogan and get to meet the Coach as well,” says Berry.
After 13 years of working at the Carl Hogan Toyota dealership, Jonathan Brekenridge says events like these are a way the dealership can show it’s previous and future customers how much they care.
“Really we are just trying to get the word out, how much we appreciate our customers because if it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t be here. We want to take care of them after we sale the a car. We don’t want to just sale them a car and forget them. We want them to know we are here to back them up and take care of them after the sale,” says Jonathan Brekinridge.
The event was held from 11 to 2.
