JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – Mississippi’s 2016 controversial legislative session is in the books.
The session came to a close Thursday morning in the House.
In the first of a four year term Republicans held a supermajority in the Senate and House.
Elected school superintendents are out. The corporate franchise tax will be done away with as it is phased out.
A law allowing religious institutions and some businesses to deny services to same-sex couples and transgender people was also approved.
However, lawmakers couldn’t agree on plans to use more money for road repairs or to change the state flag.
