TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Bond is set for a couple wanted in connection with a multi-state crime spree and high speed police chase. 49-year old Karen Barker, of Oxford and 36-year old Anthony Poe, of Shannon, were arrested Saturday night after leading police on a chase from Sherman to Blair Street in Tupelo.
Barker is charged with accessory to armed robbery while Poe is charged with one count of armed robbery. Police say Poe allegedly robbed a woman at knife-point as she was going to work at Tupelo Nursing Rehab on Briar Ridge Road last week. Authorities say the pair tried to cash stolen checks taken in that robbery in Lowndes County and they are also accused of robbing an elderly woman in Pickens County Alabama on Friday. Poe is no stranger to the police.
“It’s extremely frustrating knowing some of his previous charges, should have held him in prison,” said Tupelo PD’s Scott Floyd. “[That would have] kept him from being out and able to commit these crimes and possibly to hurt or kill someone from the first armed robbery here in Tupelo to crimes committed in Alabama and the high speed pursuit that ended up on our city street here in Tupelo, it’s extremely frustrating.”
Poe’s bond was set at $1 million. Barker’s bond was set at $10,000. Both are on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Additional charges are pending in Lowndes County and Pickens County Alabama.
