AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) -It was a big day for the Amory community as they welcome back local celebrity Miss Mississippi. Girls and boys of all ages got the opportunity to meet her Saturday. August 10th has been declared Chelsea Rick Day in Amory. She’s the first Miss Mississippi from the area.
“She’s like beautiful and nice and all that,” said young fan Ana Grace.
“I like her dresses,” added fan Riley Ray.
Twenty-three year old Chelsea Rick is settling well into her new title of Miss Mississippi and the Amory community has welcomed her back with open arms.
“This marks my 3rd week and I get to come home just for a short weekend to do some homecoming festivities and then I have to go back to Vicksburg and prepare more for Miss America,” said Chelsea Rick.
Although Rick is only in town a short time, her schedule is packed with homecoming activities. One of which is meeting her fans at “Miss Mississippi & me, tiaras and tea”.
“She’s is so sweet and humble to give up her time and it’s just a great way for children of all ages to get to come and help raise money for such a great event as the Children’s Miracle Network,” said coordinator Lana McGonagill.
Rick says she’s passionate about education and serving others and is excited to be a role model for young girls.
“That’s what the job is, it’s about these little ones and it’s about them having someone that’s a good role model to look up to and that’s what Miss Mississippi always was for me when I was a little girl,” added Rick.
The title holder will go on to compete in Miss America September 15th. The festivities continued the rest of the day with a Miss Mississippi Parade.
All the money raised at the fundraiser will go to the Children’s Miracle Network hospital in Jackson Mississippi.
