STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Starkville’s Milton Smith legacy continues.
Milton Smith II, a senior with the Yellowjackets, signed on to play baseball for Meridian Community College following graduation.
Smith, the son of Starkville High athletic director Milton Smith Sr., will play his lone season with the Yellowjacket baseball team this upcoming spring.
The younger Smith grew up in Laurel, playing football and baseball for the Golden Tornadoes. It wasn’t until May 2015 that his father accepted the open athletic director job at his alma mater and brought his family back to Starkville. His .574 batting average at Laurel High during his junior season was one of the best marks in the state.
Milton Smith Sr. was a stand-out football and baseball player for the Yellowjackets, helping Starkville High to their first State Football Championship in 1984. He also was a member of the baseball team that won the State Title in 1986.
