Video: Mills Looks To Lead His Team Deep Into The Playoffs

ECRU, Miss. (WCBI) – Clark Mills aims to keep the Vikings in the winning direction.

The North Pontotoc Vikings have been on a hot streak this season. The team has won six straight games and will look for their seventh straight to close out the regular season at Mantachie on Friday. A big reason for the Vikings success over the last six games has come from their signal caller at quarterback Clark Mills.

“I’ve feel like we’ve had a pretty good season so far,” said student athlete Clark Mills. “Beginning of the year we we’re still trying to get everybody in the right spot and still kind of learning the playbook a little bit, but right now we’ve settled down and we’ve gone on a little bit of a run, which as been good for us.”

Post season play is right around the corner for the Vikings which begins a new season in a win or go home scenario, but Mills knows being able to play at home in front of the Viking fans will help a lot.

“Clinching home feel advantage and everything in the playoffs helps a lot,” Mills said. “And have people come here first couple of rounds probably is big time. That just helps us out a lot.”

The senior has improved on his decision making from his junior year into this season being able to read defenses and blitzing schemes, and the team knows how he’s made that happen for the Vikings success.

“His leadership ability,” said teammate Jaquez Berry. “Like if somebody is messing up he can point it out to them to the parts where they are messing up at. He’s good with his decision making and stuff.”

“He’s done a great job for us,” said head coach Andy Crotwell. “He’s very very sharp. I said this early on. We speak the same language when it comes to football. He understands coverages. He understands what we are looking for on a giving play. He’s been a lot of fun to be around.”

North Pontotoc has now made the playoffs eight straight seasons, but have never played for a state championship. Mills says the team has set their selves up well to have a shot to make it to Oxford.

“We’ve set ourselves up well for it,” Mills said. “As long as we just take care of business. There is going to be some games that we run into that things are going to have to go our way and just play as hard as we can. I feel like we have a good shot at it.”

North Pontotoc and Mantachie will kickoff at 7 p.m. on Friday.
