TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — As employees served hungry customers, the dining room at this Tupelo McDonald’s became the drop off point for lots of toys.
It’s part of an annual program through Hudson Management Corporation, which owns McDonald’s Restaurants throughout the area.
“We’re here to talk today about Hudson Helpers, which years ago started out as a company initiated program,” said Rob Hudson, of the Hudson Management Corporation.
Now, the program allows employees to make contributions of any amount from each paycheck into the “Hudson Helpers” fund.
Franchise owner Rob Hudson says the program grows each year and right before Christmas, store managers gather wish lists from employees and buy lots of presents.
“I’ve been impressed with the participation from our employees and this is a great time of year where we see the benefit of the way our employees feel about one another,” Hudson said.
And whether they’re on the giving end, or receiving end, or both, McDonald’s employees are grateful to take part in Hudson Helpers.
“Most of us here we’re like family so to be able to give to other crew members in the store and to help them out and knowing that you’re helping, in some type of way it feels kind of good,” said Employee Ayana Thomas.
“On the receiving end, I think it was great because my baby was actually able to get something I couldn’t give her. She wanted a tablet,” said Employee Shanele Donner.
“I think it’s great, because, people, you hear, at McDonald’s, you don’t think of stuff like this being done so I think it’s great we are doing something like this and for others to see and maybe they want to fall in behind us and do something as well,” said Employee Tianna Robinson.
All of the toys will be distributed to employees in plenty of time for Christmas.
Hudson Helpers also provided assistance to the community after the tornado hit April 28th.
