Video: Mayor Shelton Reflects On 1992 THS Championship Team
TUPELO, MISS (WCBI) – A well known member of the last championship team for the Tupelo Golden Wave says this year’s team is unifying the entire community.
Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton was a backup quarterback on the 1992 THS football team. That team won the state championship that season.
Shelton says he has a lot of great memories from the championship team. That team was first to play at what was then the new Tupelo High School, and football stadium.
The mayor says he learned a lot of life lessons during his time on the championship team.
“There are a ton of lessons in leadership, and diversity, teamwork, goal oriented on a high school football team. Those are things that have stuck with me throughout my life, throughout my career,” Mayor Shelton said.
The 1992 THS championship team included Kirk Presley and Jarious Jackson. The team only lost one game that year.
