MANTACHIE, Miss. (WCBI) — Providing quality health care, at an affordable price has often been a challenge in rural areas. But one city in Northeast Mississippi has enjoyed the benefits of a full service health care clinic for decades.
Doctor Robert Dale worked for years as an emergency room physician in area hospitals.
But he wanted a change of pace, and earlier this year he became the primary physician at Mantachie Rural Health Care.
It has been a great fit.
“Usually in an emergency room you have an opportunity to see the patient for a very brief period of time and you hope you made the right decisions, here we have opportunity to follow up with patients,” Dr. Dale said.
It is also a great fit for Patient Wade Nanney, who lives in Mantachie and likes the convenience of having a doctor nearby.
“It’s nice to just be able to come to your hometown and get taken care of and have good quality physicians and healthcare providers,” Nanney said.
Mantachie Rural Health Care has been serving the area for more than 50 years and several years ago moved into its current location, which features 11 exam rooms, a trauma room, offices and a conference room.
The federally funded company is celebrating National Community Health Center Month by highlighting services each day, such as free prostate exams, blood pressure screenings and mammogram and other discounted services.
The clinic is also a designated Federally Qualified Health Center, which allows it to offer vital services to those below the poverty line.
“With the Affordable Care Act, a lot of people are still being left out because their income is not enough to make the cut to be able to get insurance so we’re seeing a lot of people for that reason,” said CEO Patsy Collins.
The rural clinic also gives patients an alternative to visiting the ER for basic healthcare, and that means savings for everyone.
Mantachie Rural Health also offers dental services. The week long celebration wraps up Friday afternoon with a community wide picnic.
