Video: Man Dies In Shooting In Columbus’ South Side

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – An 18-year-old young man died Friday night in a shooting in Columbus’ south side, according to coroner Greg Merchant. He’s not releasing the identity or cause of death at this time.

UPDATE, 11:05 p.m.:
A spokesman for the city of Columbus said there could be two victims in the shooting. There has been activity at two other scenes Friday night, but it’s unknown if it’s related in any way to the shooting.

The spokesman said the police department has called in all investigators to process the scene, which will take at least a few more hours.

A spokesman with the city of Columbus said the fatal shooting happened on the 1700 block of 4th Avenue South. That’s near Mississippi University For Women. Dispatchers first reported the shooting around 8:30 p.m.

Columbus police have reported the suspect is still at large.

Dispatchers said the victim was potentially not breathing as someone rushed the person to the hospital shortly after 8:30 p.m.

Dispatchers said they’re looking for a maroon Cadillac in connection with the shooting. They said officers stopped a car matching that description and found a gun in the car, but have not said if the suspect was in the stopped car.
