Video: Man Charged in Deadly Monroe Co. Shooting

HAMILTON, Miss. (WCBI) — A Hamilton man has been charged with murder after a deadly weekend shooting in Monroe County.

Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell tells WCBI they’re charging 26-year-old James Hunter with murder after the shooting on Elam Lane in Hamilton early Sunday morning.

The charge comes after investigators interviewed Hunter Monday afternoon.

Cantrell says Hunter told them he admitted to fatally shooting 23-year-old Jonathan Furland, while both of them were drinking.

Cantrell says they got into an argument, then Hunter told investigators he got his gun, and started shooting.

Hunter is being held at the Monroe County jail; his bond has not been set.
