COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A youth organization in Lowndes County got to see first hand what it’s like to be in law enforcement.
Lowndes Young Leaders visited the Columbus Police Department as a part of their training program. The group is comprised of high school sophomores from Lowndes County schools who want to improve their leadership skills. Students have to apply to become a member of the leadership organization. After visiting the police department, some say they may want to explore careers in law enforcement.
“It actually opened my eyes. I think being a forensic scientist seems really cool. To go out and see the dirty stuff. It just seems fun and interesting,” says Meredith Woolbright of New Hope High School.
“I’ve learned that cops are not always the bad guys. They’re just there to help you and when ever you need them, they’re there for you. It’s definitely spiked my interest,” says Hunter Nenneay, of Caledonia High School.
Lowndes Young Leaders is sponsored by the Columbus-Lowndes Chamber of Commerce.
