COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Work on expanded space for Lowndes County’s 911 and emergency management offices could begin by this summer. Lowndes supervisors are expected to approve final plans for the 4000 square foot addition at their March 13th meeting. They sought design work last year but waited until now to go forward to see how much money might be available from hospital trust fund earnings. That total is almost one point 9 million, providing enough for two community centers which are under construction and most of the 1.6 million dollar 911 office construction. The dispatch and office area will be renovated and expanded to the east and south to add meeting and training areas. It also will be built to withstand an EF-5 tornado.
