Video: Lowndes County School Leaders Plan Campus Improvements

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The Lowndes County Board of Education is beginning its next move to improve all three campuses in the county.

Board members approved a resolution to issue $44 million in bonds. That will most likely be done in August.

This is the money voters approved using last month.

A new career tech center and a high school at New Hope are planned, along with improvements at Caledonia and West Lowndes. However, there’s a lot of work to be done before that happens.

“We’ve got a sewage project that’s going on at New Hope, potential sewage project here at West Lowndes that we will be moving forward on as soon as possible. And also the purchase of the land for the career tech center. We’re trying to explore all options. We’ll be getting appraisals on some pieces of property.”

Once the bonds are issued, bids will be taken and construction will begin.

Each project will take about 18 months to complete.
