LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Some major construction projects are kicking into high gear for Lowndes County schools. School board members were told today crews are clearing timber from the site for a new Caledonia Elementary school. Actual construction could begin this spring with an August 2015 opening. Additions to West Lowndes Elementary also are under way and renovations have begun at West Lowndes High to make way for middle school students this fall. The only slow down is a decision on a site for a centralized vo-tech center. Two sites off Lehmberg Road are being considered.

“We are trying to move forward on that. We are waiting on the right property owner and our attorney to get together negotiating. They still have some items they have to work out. And this will probably be closer to October or November before we get things finalized,” said Lynn Wright, School Superintendent.

Plans also are in the works for a new athletic field house at New Hope High to eventually make room for a new school there.

That wasn’t the only good news for New Hope. The School Board named New Hope High School Principal, Matt Smith, the Administrator of the Year
