COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Lowndes County first responders and service organizations say they are prepared should severe weather strike.
WCBI Chief Meteorologist Keith Gibson gave the group a briefing Tuesday morning at the Lowndes County Emergency Management Agency.
Road crews, utilities, and educators were there to get the information as well.
The EMA hosts these meetings before an event to make sure everyone is on the same page and resources are in place.
Responders encourage everyone to remember to only call 911 when there is an emergency.
“If a tree is on your house and there is a health risk or safety issue, then yes you do need to call 911. Or if there is someone in the car, you know a tree fall on the car, yes you need to call 911, because that could be a medical issue or safety issue. Those are decisions where you call 911.”
