COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Northeast Mississippi and the nation have waited for weeks for answers. And opinions have ranged all over since a grand jury’s decision was announced in Ferguson, Missouri. But watching it all has been especially emotional for a Columbus woman. Nora Miller, MUW’s vice president for finance, grew up in Ferguson and her sister and brother in law still live there. While the three months after the shooting were painful, the last day has been even worse.
“As its been played out over the three months there’s just been this dread of knowing that whatever happens there’s going to be another round of rioting and demonstration. I have just had the sick feeling watching my home town burn up and people going crazy. The one, the one Little Caesar’s Pizza that burned, that is right next door to the telephone company where my family always watches that Fourth of July Parade from, and seeing these things just blocks away from where I grew up, its just disturbing.”
Miller’s sister has a heart condition and spent the night in a hotel because she feared an ambulance wouldn’t be able to get to them in case of a problem.
