Video: Local Red Cross Holds ‘Just In Time’ Training

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – The flooding in South Louisiana and Mississippi has prompted many Northeast Mississippi residents to ask how they can help.

That is one reason the North Mississippi Chapter of the American Red Cross held what it calls “Just In Time” training for volunteers.

The training covers basic information volunteers need to know, such as how to deploy in disaster areas, how to work in shelters and how the Red Cross disaster response operates.

Organizers say there will be many opportunities to help out.

“We consider some of these flooding operations will be on for months and new disasters may happen at any time, we are just now entering the peak start of hurricane season,” said Michael Upton, major gift officer with the North Mississippi Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Those who take the four hour class will be put into the volunteer database and called whenever disaster strikes.
