Video: Local Police Athletic League Recognized For Making A Difference
TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – For Major Anthony Hill, spending time at the Police Athletic League is an
investment in the future.
Major Hill has volunteered at PAL since it began more than ten years ago.
Recently, he was named Volunteer of the Year during the PAL National
Convention.
“Our department is well rounded, we do have enforcement, but at the same
time we have officers that interact with our youth,” Maj. Hill said.
During the conference in Tampa, Lieutenant Michael Russell was appointed to
the PAL National Executive Board.
Lieutenant Russell is executive director of Tupelo’s PAL. He says while the
honors are appreciated, it wouldn’t have been possible without support at
many levels.
“To be able to represent the city of Tupelo and our citizens, this really
shows support our city hall and Tupelo Police administration has shown for
supporting our Police Athletic League and the difference we’ve made in our
community,” Lt. Russell said.
And it’s not just about athletics. Youngsters say they learn valuable life
lessons at PAL.
“They help us stay out of the streets, not get in trouble. Help us with our
homework, how to become young men,” said Charlie Rupert.
Everyone involved stresses the importance of and the need for volunteers
from the community, to invest in the lives of young people.
PAL just launched a mentoring program called “Real Men Stand Up.” If you
