NORTH MISSISSIPPI (WCBI) – Heavy trucks carrying logs and timber across north Mississippi still will be able to use Highway 78 under a law making its way through Congress.
The House passed the bill today to allow farm and timber trucks to carry up to 84 thousand pounds on Highway 78 from the Tennessee line to the Alabama line. Congressman Alan Nunnelee and the rest of the state’s delegation are pushing the bill. It doesn’t allow any larger trucks than can currently use the road. But it does keep alive an existing permit process that allows trucks carrying agricultural products to get the exemption. Nunnelee says it’s important to the farm industry that does not have access to rail in many rural areas.
