JACKSON and COLUMBUS, MS (WCBI) – Hunters would get a tax free weekend in Mississippi if Representative Jeff Smith gets his way. The Columbus lawmaker is pushing what he calls a Second Amendment Tax Holiday. Under the plan, anything used for hunting or fishing could be sold tax free one weekend each year. The current draft of the bill sets the tax free holiday for the first full weekend of September. The tax break covers items ranging from guns to bows to duck decoys. Four wheelers and boats would also be covered. The bill has already cleared committee and is waiting on floor action.
