OXFORD, MISS. (WCBI) – The Max D Hipp Industrial Park is fiber ready.
For several years, AT & T has built the infrastructure to make fiber based, high speed internet available. It’s the second industrial park in the state to receive designation.
“It is a big investment, as a matter fact, over the last three years, from 2012 to 2014 AT&T has invested 950 million dollars in the state of Mississippi. It’s equipment, technology, fiber, electronics to run the fiber,” said Mayo Flynt, President of AT&T Mississippi.
No matter the industry, economic developers say having a fiber ready industrial park is as important as having good roads, water, sewer and electricity.
“Our local industries here can now have capacity to expand and rely on that high speed data as well as going out and being able to recruit new companies to be able to locate in the industrial park,” said Jon Maynard, CEO of the Oxford-Lafayette County Economic Development Foundation.
Businessman say the fiber ready designation impacts everyone in the area.
“The higher technology a community has, the better for everyone, the more jobs we can attract here to Oxford by the economic development foundation, the real estate community wins, as much as anybody,” said Steve Vassallo, a realtor with Premier Properties and an ambassador with Cannon Motors of Mississippi.
There are about 250 acres available for businesses in the Max D Hipp Industrial Park.
Soon the Mississippi Development Authority will have a list of fiber ready sites for potential businesses.
