TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Thousands of Northeast Mississippians were able to see some of their favorite Disney characters this weekend at Tupelo’s BancorpSouth Arena.
It was all part of “Disney on Ice, Princesses and Heroes.”
Katelyn and Karlie Grubbs thought they were going out to eat with their mom and dad, instead when they got to a restaurant their parents blindfolded them, and took them to the BancorpSouth Arena for a big surprise.
The sisters would have a special visit from Cinderella. Five year old Karlie wanted to go to Disney on Ice, and her parents wanted to make her first Disney show extra special.
This past year has been tough for Karlie. She was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation, a rare brain condition, which causes a lot of pain.
“It’s rare, like if you see her now , you see her and she’s normal, but you don’t know she’s hurting until she’s hurting,” Dad Ricky said.
Like most kids, Karlie loves Disney movies and characters so when her parents heard Disney on Ice was coming to town, they took action.
“I posted on Facebook Monday that I really wish I knew somebody who could get her backstage as a surprise for her. People started responding and before I knew it, we were in here,” DeeAnn said.
For Karlie, and her big sister, Katelyn, having a meet and greet with Cinderella, and making their very own princess crowns, was a dream come true and a huge surprise .
“I thought it was a party, she said, what’s your name,?” Karlie said.
The entire family was given tickets to the show and now Karlie wants to go to Disneyland.
Karlie will have her third brain surgery this January.
First Baptist Church in Shannon will hold a fundraiser for the Grubbs family December 1.
