TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – A high school baseball coach is taking his love for all things outdoors and launching a business he hopes will catch on with many in this area and beyond.
WCBI’s Allie Martin introduces us to the coach, husband and father who wants to create a brand where hunters and fishermen can share their experiences.
Whenever it is hunting season, Eric Reynolds can usually be found in a tree stand. Or in a duck blind.
Reynolds is known to many as the Saltillo High School baseball coach. Recently, Reynolds, along with several friends, started a company called “Southern Life Outdoors,” for regular guys, who like all things related to hunting and the great outdoors.
“We’re not a group of guys who have this big huge farm in Montana, or Illinois, anywhere, we’re just average guys, lucky if we get on a lease somewhere or hunt public property,” Reynolds said.
“Southern Life Outdoors” began as an economics class project and now more than 20 experts are involved.
“You can take deer hunting, turkey hunting, crappie fishing, bass fishing, bow fishing.”
Reynolds, and his team have spent hours videotaping their hunts and hope to launch a local television program soon.
The show will also feature videos and photos from other outdoor enthusiasts.
“What we really need, from viewers of this story is to get involved, this is not just about us, this is about you guys too,” said Chris Stevenson, who also helps with “Southern Life Outdoors.”
It is also about the common bond hunters share. Those who are involved in “Southern Life Outdoors” are friends and they even make time to practice their skills , like this session at MudCreek Archery.
Reynolds wants “Southern Life Outdoors” to also emphasize the importance of family. The company’s logo represents his four sons.
“The lead duck is my oldest, the two in the middle are the twins and then I have a one year old,” Reynolds said.
Seven year old Easton Reynolds has been on several hunts with his dad and he is excited about “Southern Life Outdoors.”
“We get to share our passion of hunting and fishing,” Easton said.
Of course, “Southern Life Outdoors” plans to make extensive use of social media, and these young hunters have a message for the masses.
“Follow Southern Life Outdoors on Facebook and Instagram.”
By the way, many sports enthusiasts may remember that Reynolds played for the Yankees and the Marlins at one time.
