STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – The relationship with a parent is the most important bond a child can have. Now one “life coach” at the Starkville Boys and Girls Club is making it her mission to see children and parents build stronger relationships.
Candace Williams is a certified life coach who works with adults but focuses instead on helping children.
“My objective actually is to help bring relationships together as far as children bonding with their parents,” says Williams.
The kids at the Boys & Girls Club are learning to be respectful, good listeners and to obey their parents. The children say the techniques are making a difference in their lives.
“For the last few days, my mom has been making me laugh. I’ve been doing a lot for her. She’s done a lot for me and I’m just thankful for it,” says T’Kira Wilson, a member of the Starkville Boys and Girls Club.
“Instead of talking back, I count down to 10 & say yes ma’am or no ma’am,” says Club Member Camryn Glenn.
“I’ve noticed that the children are more relaxed and they’re also getting to the point that they’re being positive,” says Williams.
Williams says parents should recognize children have problems too but a strong parental bond can make solving them much easier.
Candance Williams volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club and is also a motivational speaker.
