Video: Legislation Would Allow Other Uses for SNAP Benefits

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) -People receiving Federal assistance may be able to put their benefits towards another bill.

A bill introduced in the Mississippi Senate allowing SNAP  recipients to use their benefits to pay their water bill is on the table.

The proposal calls for any Mississippi benefits card to be used to a pay a water bill owed by the recipient.

If passed, the law would go into effect July 1st.

In early January a big change was made to the SNAP program, requiring single people who receive food stamp benefits to find a job.
