TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) -It’s a job that requires a law enforcement officer to put his life on the line, and, sometimes those officers are injured in the line of duty.Today, Lee County supervisors voted to help injured officers out by paying all or part of their regular compensation and benefits.
The county will pay the difference between what an officer receives from worker’s compensation and disability benefits and his or her regular paycheck.
Injuries in the line of duty include injuries sustained while investigating, pursuing, apprehending or arresting a suspect. This will also cover officers who are in charge of transporting or maintaining custody of a suspect or convicted criminal. Medical reviews are required, and benefits will be paid to the officer for 24 months or until he retires on a disability retirement allowance or until he is able to perform his duties again
