Video: Lee County Sheriff’s Department Captures Fugitive
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) -Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson says a fugitive who was on the run for eight months was outsmarted by law enforcement and is now back in jail.
36-year-old Victor Lee Parker was wanted by authorities for a shooting that occurred last August in the Auburn community.
Parker fled the scene of the non fatal shooting and eluded authorities, including the US Marshal’s Service until Friday evening, when law officers nabbed Parker as part of an undercover operation.
Sheriff Johnson says Parker was an outdoorsman, who built a make-shift fort, in the woods.
The sheriff says Parker was also aided by friends and family, while he was on the run. At least three people are charged with hindering prosecution and rendering criminal assistance.
“Number one, if you are going to commit the crime, we are going to catch you, we’re not going to stop, we will go to whatever extreme it takes, as well as , if you are an individual that has involved yourself in aiding and assisting these individuals after you’ve been warned repeatedly then we are going to come after you too and we are going to do what we can to help make our county safe.”
A Lee County Sheriff’s deputy suffered a concussion last week when he spotted Parker and tried to apprehend him in the woods. Also, Sheriff Johnson says more arrests and charges could follow. The Itawamba County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the investigation.
