TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Lee County residents had a chance to safely dispose of old, or unwanted medicine.
The Lee County Sheriff’s office was the designated drop off point for any unused, or expired medication.
Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson says the initiative is coordinated by the Drug Enforcement Administration as a way to help citizens safely dispose of drugs.
“The biggest thing is, a lot of times you don’t go to your medicine cabinet until it’s time to take medicine, you can go through cold medicine, aspirin, or whatever that may be expired and may not be healthy to take and you just , good time to do an inventory, we give you opportunity, time and place, no questions asked to come by and drop it off.”
The drug drop off day is held twice a year. Sheriff Johnson says more than 700 pounds of medicine is collected each year.
