Video: Law Enforcement Has Tips To Keep From Being A Target For Memorial Day Crooks
BOONEVILLE, MISS. (WCBI) – Many people are traveling this Memorial Day weekend and law enforcement officers say crooks are looking for easy targets.
Law officers say burglars often scan social media to pick victims. Many people post photos on social media sites, telling the world that they are out of town and away from their homes.
Experts say it’s important to always be safety conscious, especially when you are on vacation or away from home during the holiday weekend.
“We need to be very watchful of what we put on Facebook, and items of where we’re going, how long we’re going to be gone, make sure your house is secure, make sure your doors are locked, make sure if you go shopping, any packages, anything like that you might buy it’s out of sight , make sure you keep your car doors locked, all those things play into the safety of our county and of the visitors as well,” said Jeff Jones, a reserve deputy and chaplain for the Prentiss County Sheriff’s Department.
The Department of Justice says crime overall spikes during the summer months nationwide.
