COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – It was calculated competition in Columbus Tuesday.

Nearly 600 of the best students from across the state gathered at the Trotter Convention Center for the Mississippi School for Math and Science’s annual Math Tournament.

The high school number crunchers competed in several categories, including Calculus, Geometry, and Trigonometry.

While there are prizes up for grabs, organizers say the event also helps these students stay engaged.

“It is a way to get them excited about mathematics and to keep them excited about school, because we are always trying to help this population to become our future mathematicians and engineers, and other ways that math impacts the world.”

MS MS students and Math teachers served as facilitators for the event.
