COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) -Sunday Dinner – Family Reunions – At just about any special occasion in the South one entree’ is bound to be on the menu – Fried Chicken. And July 6th is set aside as National Fried Chicken Day to honor the favorite dish.
Those in the know, say hot grease, a dusting of flour and special seasonings all help make the dish one of Mississippi’s favorite foods.
At Helen’s Kitchen in Columbus where chicken is on the menu every day, manager Kabir Karriem says there’s one more ingredient that makes a difference.
Helen Karriem has been serving chicken and other southern favorites for nearly 30 years.
“We have a lot of different special seasonings that we put in our chicken, but most of it is with love and we get that from our mother, Mrs. Helen.”
