Video: Jr. Beta Club Members At One Elementary Collect Toys For Autism Center Of North Mississippi
TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Clients at the Autism Center of North Mississippi now have a lot of new toys to play with during therapy sessions, thanks to a group of students from a Tupelo school.
Members of the Junior Beta Club at Rankin Elementary decided to hold a toy drive for the Autism Center.
Students, and their parents, collected toys, and cash donations at the West Main Wal Mart in Tupelo.
This afternoon, students brought more than 700 dollars worth of toys, and monetary donations to the center.
“Our goal was to raise money, awareness, toys, as much as we could for the autism center and those affected by it, and we mostly did it in October and since the beginning of school year, till now,” said Afnane-Houghhouj, president of the Jr. Beta Club at Rankin Elementary.
“We need those toys to expand reinforcers during therapy, sometimes we have to teach children with autism how to play and that’s a skill they have to learn, and teach them how to follow instruction, so we need new toys to engage them,: said Brittany Cuevas, executive director of the Autism Center of North Mississippi.
The Junior Beta Club at Rankin plans to do more projects for the Autism Center of North Mississippi in the future.
