Video: Jon Meacham Signs Latest Book at Reed’s Gumtree Bookstore

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A Pulitzer Prize winning author says he hopes his latest book gives a personal glimpse into the life of the nation’s 41st president.

Jon Meacham was at Reed’s Gumtree Bookstore in Tupelo, signing copies of his latest book, “Destiny And Power, The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush.”

Meacham spent years going through the former president’s White House diaries, and numerous interviews.

The author says he hopes readers get a well rounded view of the former president.

“I hope people will come away with an appreciation for a man who tried to put the country first, ahead of his own political interests, and it’s a reminder that things can work in Washington, no matter how bad they seem, and they seem pretty bad right now.”

Along with being number one on the New York Times Bestseller list, Meacham says the Bush family has also read, and approved the book.
