LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — A timely business move means that a major employer will still be coming to Louisville. The city has received a $10 million insurance check to cover losses to a plywood plant that was being built on South Church Avenue. Since the project was near completion, Louisville took the precaution of increasing coverage on the plant shortly before the April 28th tornado struck.
That planning paid off. The city is now looking for architectural and engineering firms to design and rebuild the plant. Winston Wood and Veneer remains committed to the project, and that is good news for the area.
Mayor Will Hill said, “It’s been a major void in wood industry in this region and state for years. To have this opportunity we have to seize the moment. I say within 10-12 months we will have a really good idea. When we are hopefully in a good production capacity.”
Winston Wood and Veneer is expected to create 400 direct and 700 indirect jobs.
