VIDEO: The Impacts Of The iPhone 8 Release

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – iPhone eight sales start today, September, 22.

You’d think people wanting to get the latest phone would help “used” cell phone dealers.

“It’s kind of slowed business down a little bit the past couple weeks,” said Cell Phone Repair Geeks Manager Ben Mitchell.

Mitchell says the recent iPhone 8 release is making an impact at his cash register.

“With pre-orders starting last week, people are getting the pre-order for the 8 and not necessarily coming in for repairs on their older phones or not necessarily trading in old iPhones right now,” said Mitchell.

While the 8 was released Friday, the technology and the iPhone are constantly upgrading.

“We’ve had a lot of questions because it’s a lot of new stuff this year. They skipped the 7S and went right to the 8 and the X or 10. So, it’s a little confusing with the 10 year anniversary of going to glass backs and glass fronts, instead of metal backing. Then adding wireless charging and things like that, it’s a lot of new stuff,” said Mitchell.

2 in 1 Connections Manager Mo Hamed says the new cell phone has increased traffic.

“The most important thing is, trying to meet the demand on the cases screen protectors all the accessories that come with it every time they drop a new phone they come out with new accessories so we are trying to make sure we are on top of that we should have everything in stalk for the next few days,” said Hamed.

Mitchell says although business is slow now, he’s not worried about the future.

“It will pick up in the next couple weeks, once people have their new phone and they’ve transferred all their data to their new phone, we might start seeing it pick up a little bit,” said Mitchell.

Pre-order for the iPhone 10 begins October 27 and the phone will be in stores November 3rd.
