Video: Howard Will Have to Wait Until Fall to Find Out About New Trial

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Eddie Lee Howard will have to wait until October before a judge decides if there will be a new murder trial.

Lowndes County Circuit Clerk Teresa Barksdale says discovery issues came to light today.

The 62 year-old Howard was sentenced to death for the 1992 rape and stabbing of Georgia Kemp.

Howard’s legal team says he should get a new trial.

A forensic analyst testified this week that DNA samples taken from a knife used in the crime didn’t match Howard’s DNA.

Bite mark evidence is also being scrutinized.

Judge Lee Howard has not set a specific date for the hearing to resume.
