Video: ‘Heart And Vascular Institute’ Holds Celebration At NMMC
TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Changing the name of NMMC’s Heart Institute to the “Heart and Vascular Institute” was cause for a brief celebration.
“It’s exciting for us because we are looking to move forward and continue to provide more care to our patients and our community,” said T.J. Adams, administrator of cardiovascular and surgical services at NMMC. Adams has helped recruit three vascular surgeons in the past year to launch the Heart and Vascular Institute.
Vascular surgeons operate on arteries and veins in the body. The three vascular surgeons at NMMC means more services for patients.
“Vascular surgery is a comprehensive , care for patients, including medical management, screening, risk factor modification, not just surgical aspects of it, but we are specifically trained in all endovascular , minimally invasive techniques, such as stenting, angioplasty, in addition to traditional open surgical bypasses,” said Dr. Joey Stinson, a vascular surgeon.
NMMC’s first bypass surgery was performed 35 years ago. Since then, there have been many milestones at what was known as the heart institute. The long record of accomplishments, coupled with a strong sense of teamwork are some factors that convinced Doctor Justin Parden to come on board. The community and area were also a strong selling point.
“Tupelo seems to be a pretty amazing community, it is the right size, and serves a rural population, which I really do like. The people are friendly, honest, I like the community, environment and it allows me to come to a city the size which I like,” said Dr. Justin Parden, a vascular surgeon.
The Heart and Vascular Institute is located on the third floor of the East Tower.
More than 400 people work, in some way, with the Heart and Vascular Institute at NMMC .
