GUNTOWN, Miss. (WCBI) — Students at Guntown Middle School got to see the effects of impaired and distracted driving as part of a campaign by the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
MDOT had their “Seat Belt Convincer” on hand. It allows people to sit in a driver’s seat, buckle up and feel the effects of a 5 mile an hour crash.
Also, students got to drive a go kart, that simulates impaired driving, and they were able to drive a simulator representing the effects of texting and driving. Students say they got the message.
“It does feel rough, I mean, just think, 30 miles an hour, how bad it would be,” said eighth grader Brandon Dillard.
MDOT holds the educational demonstrations at schools throughout the state.
