Video: Girl Power Driving New Robotics Camp
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science hosted a computing camp for elementary and middle school girls.
Mary Lee, an MSMS Senior and aspiring neurologist was awarded a grant from the National Center for Women in Information and Technology. She used the funds to power an all girls computer robot camp.
Lee wanted to show girls, that might not otherwise get the chance, that robots and computer programming aren’t just for boys.
“They’re usually like, oh robots boys, you know? And they just love it they come in here every morning usually and it starts at 9 but they’ve been getting here at like eight-thirty, eight forty five and they run straight to their laptops and hook up their robots and turn them on.”
At the end of the week, campers are given the robots to take home and encouraged to spread the knowledge they learned!
