AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – It’s spring time and the weather was perfect this weekend for the Flower Lovers Garden Club in Amory to host their annual luncheon.
“The Flower Lovers Garden Club has helped make the the city of Amory beautiful with one flower at a time. We maintain and add to a memorial garden that we have. We do garden therapy at our nursing home, both of our nursing homes actually,” says Susan Murray, President of the Garden Club.
The Flower Lovers also plant arbor trees throughout the city each year. The group raised over two thousand dollars from this year’s luncheon to continue their projects.
“These people do such a great job working all over our community, improving the aesthetics, and the way our community is viewed by visitors and those who live here,” says Howard Boozer, former Amory Mayor.
The garden club is open to any one and President Susan Murray says it’s all about fun and serving the community.
“All you need to do is love gardening or love flowers. You don’t have to have a lot of knowledge about that. We share what we know and have a lot of fun learning new things and supporting our community,” says Murray.
The Club also held a bake sale and raffle during the luncheon. The Flower Lovers Garden Club began 74 years ago.
