AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – Five years ago, it gave Amory residents a big edge in Northeast Mississippi. Now costs and changing technology are making it obsolete.
The Gilmore Foundation says it will phase out the free Wi-Fi Internet service it has provided throughout the city since the summer of 2007.
The Foundation says Smart phone technology has cut usage dramatically.
That lack of use plus the cost of upgrading equipment prompted the decision.
It’ll take about two years to complete the phase out.
It’ll still be available at some hot spots like Frisco Park and the Amory Regional Museum.
