STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – It’s only been a week since the new Starkville Chief of Police took office but he says he’s already hard at work. Frank Nichols has been with the Department since 1992. He says taking Starkville to another level of service is his first priority.
“One of my main goals in moving the city of Starkville forward is to enhance our technology, become more technically sound, be on the cutting edge of that,” says Nichols.
Nichols is the first African American Chief to serve in the history of the Department. He recognizes the significance of his appointment but says doing the job well
is what matters most.
“At the end of my tenure, as big of a deal as it is to be the 1st African American, I would rather be remembered as someone who provided exemplary service in the city of Starkville,” says Nichols.
Nichols says he wants to rebuild the trust between the police department and the community and continue to serve in honor of those who came before him.
“We have a great agency and I just want to continue in that tradition,” says Nichols.
Chief Nichols is also a Starkville native.
